Benevolent Touch and Infant Massage
This course will provide massage therapy students with skills to give positive nurturing touch (Benevolent Touch) to older adults, people with special needs, and children. Through the development of confidence, knowledge, and techniques, massage students will learn how they can enhance the quality of life and increase a feeling of love and security for individuals of all ages and abilities. By offering this course at St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care, students have the invaluable opportunity to work “hands-on” with the adult and child day care clients. OBJECTIVES: •Develop adapted massage therapy techniques for effective services for people of all ages and abilities. •Emphasize the importance of positive touch for the frail and elderly along with children. •Provide valuable “hands-on” practice of newly learned massage skills. •Create awareness of the specific needs of individuals with dementia, sensory loss, and challenges. •Develop an awareness of non-verbal communication within adults and children. Gaia's Touch Heated Stone Massage
Gaia's Touch Heated Stone Massage Workshops are a fun, interactive two day hands on experience where massage therapists learn a full body hot stone massage routine. Participants will learn: . Pharmacology and Massage
This course is designed to address the effects of various pharmaceutical agents on the body, their variability in therapeutic effects, and their impact on the delivery of massage therapy. The course will address various agents that are more prevalent in disorders such as, but not limited to, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, cardiovascular disorders, circulatory disorders, pain management, and various medications used in treating mood disorders. Chair Massage
The focus of the course is to build upon the chair massage techniques of each participant massage therapy practitioner. Using active participation, demonstration, dialogue and discussion of various strategies and their desired effects, the course participants can look forward to sharing in the vast knowledge of the instructor and integrated additional techniques shared by other participants. Myofascial Approaches for Lumbo-Pelvic Pain
Develop your hands on skills in the treatment of lumbo-pelvic pain and dysfunction. This 3 day, 24 credit hour training program will provide you with the anatomical foundation, functional testing methods, and myofascial release techniques to restore lumbo-pelvic stability and equilibrium. Participants receive an illustrated manual, peer reviewed articles authored by the presenter, and extensive tableside instruction for myofascial, deep tissue and therapeutic muscle stretching techniques. Participants will gauge their own level of myofascial strain and develop strategies and protocols for pain-free performance. This unique training includes cadaver dissection review, functional assessment of postural and phasic muscle imbalance, elegant biomechanics and self care stabilization methods for optimal clinical outcomes. Shiatsu: Developing Technique and Application
Special introductory rate of only $175 for 16 continuing education hours! This course, held from 8am-5pm each day, is designed to give therapists the opportunity to learn and experience Shiatsu bodywork, both the technical skill for hands-on acupressure work and the fundamental theories for application. In addition to five element theory, participants will learn the pathways of the major energy channels and appropriate techniques for addressing the channels throughout the body. Participants will be guided in methods for developing skill as well as ample time to experience this bodywork. This course is suitable for all levels of massage training.
